LOVELY MONDRIAN

During February, as it's Valentine's Day month, we worked on the feeloing of LOVE. Third graders discovered the Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian and his geometric abstraction style using only primary colours.
Apart from discovering a new artist, we learned to make a heart using symmetry, practised drawing parallel and perpendicular lines, coloring, cutting and pasting.

And we also made a big Mondrian-style painting to display our heart creations.

PICASSO MONSTERS

Last October-November, while working on the feeling of FEAR and Halloween, we discovered Picasso and his cubist figures.
We watched the video of the story Picasso's trousers to discover this wonderful artist.

We practiced our cutting skills, drawing shapes, symmetry, colour combination, ...

And we made monsters inspired by Picasso's art. You can see some examples below.

Fift graders made a different version of the same activity, using cardboard and scrap paper to make little sculptures.

FEELINGS SELFIES

Our first Art activity of the year was to draw ourselves at a moment from our summer. We had to choose a moment and draw ourselves according to how we felt at that moment. Below you can see some of our cell-fies.

THIERRY NOIR

Last December, as part of our Art and Emotions school projects, 6th graders, who are studying graffiti as an artistic way to express ideas and emotions, discovered Thierry Noir. He was the first artist who painted on the Berlin Wall. If you want to discover him too, watch the presentation below:

Based on some of his work, we made our own artwork for our 2016 calendar. See some examples below:

SCULPTURE INTRODUCTION

Hi there! We're Our Art creations are back!

This year, our school project is about Arts and Emotions, so in our Art lessons we'll try to work on different Arts and what they make us feel.
We've decided October will be dedicated to the emotion of  FEAR, so we've worked on different Art representations of this feeling.
Sixth graders worked on this feeling through the Art of Sculpture. We chose the Swiss artist Giacometti and his tall and thin creations as an introduction to Sculpture and as a representation of fear.
To learn about the artist, we used this slideshow:

We worked with foil paper to make our creatures.

We gave each sculpture a personality and are now making presentation for the rest of the class to choose the best character. These are our final creations.

A DELICIOUS FAMILY DAY!

Hello everyone! Last Friday 15th May it was Family Day. For this reason, as every year, we prepared a little gift for our families in our Art lessons.

Since this school year project is  "Around the world on top of a plate", we decided to make something related to food.

Third graders made beautiful cookie tins reusing chips tins. First, we covered the tins with white paper and then we painted them.

After that, we cut out letters with the word COOKIES and some other shapes to decorate the tins.  To make them look shinier, we covered them with some decoupage glue.

And this was the result!

Then we made some cookies to put in the tins.

Yummy!

4th and 5th graders made a bowl and filled it with "classroom-made" chocolates.

To make the bowl, we used the paper maché technique.

Once it was hard and dry, we popped the balloon out and covered the outside with patterned paper and painted the inside.

This was the result.

We also made some chocolates to put in the bowl We used a super simple with just 3 ingredients: CHOCOLATE, CORN FLAKES AND BUTTER.

Once the chocolates were made, we put them in the fridge for about 15 minutes, wrote a card for our family and prepared everything to wrap ouir gift.

It took us a while, but we were all very proud of our creations, and the COOKIES and CHOCOLATES were delicious!!
