AROUND THE WORLD ON TOP OF A PLATE/CUP/MUG-4th GRADE CALENDAR

4th graders chose the exact title of our 2014-2015 school project "Around the world on top of a plate" as a theme for their 2015 calendar. They also connected it to their classroom theme, where they are cooks.

We painted a sky with watercolours (they chose if they wanted a classic blue sky or a sunset sky) after having drawn a few white lines with crayons that will pop out of the watercoloured background. Having done this, they drew a hot air balloon which theu decorated with different lines and patterns and instead of making a basket, they drew a plate, a mug or a cup to put themselves in (perfect occasion to review some kitchen-related vocabulary). Meanwhile, we took pictures of them as if they were travelling in their painting hot air balloon (very fun moment, by the way!). When everything was ready (3 lessons), we cut the hot air balloon and pasted it on the background paper and then pasted out photo in the hot air balloon. To finish, we made some 2-D clouds to decorate our skies.

Here you are some examples if you'd like to see.

12 FRUITS FOR 12 MONTHS - 3rd GRADE 2015 CALENDARS

Last December, in our Art lessons, we made our 2015 calendars based on our school project "Around the world on top of a plate".

In 3rd grade, we chose 12 fruits for 12 months. We learned some new names of fruits and analyzed their characteristics (colour, shape, texture...) to be able to draw them and assigned one fruit to each month. After the planning, we made a grid using a square shaped stencil and painted it with watercolours. On a different sheet of paper we drew the fruits, coloured them with crayons and traced them with a black crayon. After this, we pasted them onto the grid and our painting was ready!

Here you are some examples of our healthy and yummy calendars if you'd like to see!
